Manchester City announced on Tuesday the hiring of another defender, the Portuguese Rúben Dias. According to Benfica released the day before, the deal amounted to € 68 million, while the Portuguese club paid € 15 million in the same transaction for the defender Otamendi.

Dias, who will wear jersey number 3, is Manchester City’s third signing for the current season, after Dutch defender Nathan Aké and Spanish striker Ferrán Torres. “Having the opportunity to join a club like Manchester City is fantastic for me and something I could not refuse. The club’s success speaks for itself. It has been the dominant team in England in recent years, playing offensive football which I think to be suitable for my game”, said Rúben.

Although City has invested in other names like Senegalese Koulibaly, from Napoli, and Frenchman Koundé, from Sevilla, Rúben Dias was one of those quoted to reinforce City according to football director Txiki Begiristain. “Rúben is a player that we have admired for some time and we are impressed with how he has progressed at Benfica. He has become a true leader and, as a defender, he has all the attributes we are looking for.”
